Beanies

Beanies are a cold weather fall and winter cap often made from knitted wool, cotton, or acrylic blends. With functional construction and practical uses, a beanie is the perfect fall and winter season cap. Classic in appearance, the beanie is sometimes called a watchcap, or docker. The historical references are many.

The watch cap style beanie often features a taller crown and wider rib brim, and hails from military and navy use. Those who were up late to guard and patrol were on watch, and would wear this style of headwear to keep them warm in the late and early hours of cold night watches. In the 1960’s and 1970’s, it became a symbol of rebellion, while today it is solidified as a classic style for contemporary fashion, without losing its utility from its historical use in the armed forces.

Docker beanies sit higher up on the head, above the ears, and feature a low crown and small brim. Originating already from Ancient gGreece, the Docker style beanie cap has become a cult classic. Without a brim, oftentimes adjustable, it has become a synonymous with jazz musicians, fisherman, and those with an avant garde style, who appreciate the historical nod to a functional piece of headwear.
